Currently he works at the Department of Cardiac Surgery of San Giovanni Battista Hospital in Torino involved in daily clinical and surgical activities. From July 2006 he has been attending daily the Heart Transplantation outpatient’s clinic. His major areas of interest are advanced heart failure, not responding to drug therapy, treated with mechanical assist devices and heart transplantation, lung transplantation and immunosuppressive therapy in solid organ transplantation.
His activity is mainly concerned with: Evaluation of patients with advanced heart disease and timing for inclusion in waiting list for Heart Transplantion; Management of peri-and post-operative complications, medical therapy and endomyocardial biopsies of heart transplanted patients during hospitalization in ICU and ward; Heart transplanted patients follow-up at the outpatient’s clinic; Post-operative management of lung transplanted patients during ICU period.
Research
His field of research is related to the intrathoracic organ transplant program including: post-transplant immunosuppressive therapy contributing to the participation of the center of Turin in
multicenter randomized trials; acute humoral rejection after heart transplantation; the implantation of mechanical systems for the treatment of advanced heart failure refractory to
medical therapy; ex-vivo lung reconditioning.
