Additional Educational Information
I did my medical schooling in Madras Medical College, Chennai, India, a centre of repute in the country. I then travelled north to do my Masters in General Surgery at the King George's Medical Univesity in Lucknow. I worked in close association with Prof Ramakant and Dr Suresh Kumar who were doing pioneering work in General Thoracic Surgery - especially with Empyema and other infective lesions affecting the lung. I received the Prestigious University Gold Medal in Surgery during my residency there. I did my Surgical Oncology Residency at the Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, India's largest cancer center.
I developed a keen interest in Thoracic Oncology there under the guidance of Prof. CS Pramesh, Dr George Karimundackal and Dr Sabita Jiwnani, and pursued a Fellowship in Thoracic Surgical Oncology there.
I have always been interested in minimally invasive surgery. The goal was to make it possible for patients in India to make thoracic surgery safe.
I am involved in teaching. We at Thangam Cancer Center, are one of the few certified Thoracic Surgical Oncology programs in India. More than 150 surgeons have come to our hospital to learn VATS and Robotic Thoracic Surgery.
We are one of the leading centers for Lung sparing resections for Carcinoid tumors.
