Research
Dr. Hanna's clinical practice is centred around Thoracic Oncology. He works with patients of Lung Cancer, Esophageal Cancer, and Mediastinal Tumors, to provide the highest standards of surgical care. Dr. Hanna and his team perform highly complex Robotic Thoracic Surgery, Minimally Invasive Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS), Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) and Endoscopic UItrasound (EUS), and strive to offer the best surgical treatment in the safest way possible.
Dr Hanna's research practice is geared towards advancing the science of Lung Cancer Surveillance, Robotic Lung Cancer Surgery, and Quality Improvement in Thoracic Surgery.
Dr. Hanna holds academic appointments at McMaster University’s Departments of Surgery and Health Research Methods, Evidence and Impact. He leads a productive team of researchers that has contributed more than 44 peer-reviewed publications to the surgical literature, and counting. Dr. Hanna’s laboratory also trains future researchers who are completing their PhD, MSc, and BSc degrees at McMaster University. Dr. Hanna’s research focuses on the integration of technology and design with healthcare, in a way that enhances patient outcomes and improves lives before and after surgery. Dr. Hanna also sits on the editorial board of the prominent Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (JTCVS), as the only general (non-cardiac) thoracic surgeon to be elected from Canada.
