International Conference to Cover All Aspects of Heart Valve Disease, May 8-10 in NYC

New York City will be the setting for the Sixth Annual Joint Scientific Session of the Heart Valve Society of America (HVSA) & Society for Heart Valve Disease (SHVD), Valves in the Heart of the Big Apple: Evaluation & Management of Valvular Heart Diseases 2014 (VIHBA), taking place from May 8-10, 2014, at the New York Marriott Marquis.

Over 125 of the world’s top specialists — cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiologists, imagers, interventional cardiologists, and basic researchers — will offer state-of-the-art lectures, Meet the Experts programs, small group teaching sessions, and masters case presentations in valve imaging, repair, and surgery. Popular hands-on masters classes in 3D Echo Cropping, Robot Manipulation and How to Do Transapical Valve Implantation will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The program also includes oral presentations of refereed abstracts, which cover a variety of surgical subjects.

Plenary sessions will cover aortic stenosis, current status of transcatheter therapy, atrial fibrillation, reoperations, and controversies in valvular heart disease — with debates on the Ross procedure, use of TAVI in elderly patients, and whether severe AS should undergo urgent surgery. Meet the Experts sessions will include Current Aortic Valve Surgery Techniques, Percutaneous Innovation Lab, Progress in Bioprotheses, and Complications of Percutaneous Procedures.

VIHBA has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit CME credit, which is being provided by SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Office of Continuing Medical Education.
