New App Available: Esophageal Cancer Stage

The Esophageal Cancer Stage app provides users with a handy tool to establish staging for esophageal carcinoma. This app is based on the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) Seventh Edition scheme, and represents the most up-to-date formulation. The previous staging model was based on just tumor size, nodal stations, and the presence of metastatic disease. However, analyses have shown that histology, histologic grade, numbers of lymph nodes, and, in some cases, the anatomic location of the primary tumor, are important contributions to the prognosis. The current staging model, reflected in the new Esophageal Cancer Stage app, represents the fruits of these analyses.
