Surgical Volunteer Opportunities

Rwanda Surgical Cardiac Program

Healing Hearts Northwest provides open heart surgery to young Rwandans suffering from Rheumatic Heart Disease. We are planning our 6th trip to Kigali Rwanda in early October of 2017. Each trip has provided surgical repair or replacement of diseased heart valves. We have completed 82 surgeries. Our goal is to mentor local physicians and nurses in cardiac care with the vision of an independent Rwandan surgical program. We coordinate our trips with 3 other international teams providing surgeries on a quarterly basis, coordinating patient follow-up and ongoing education.

This mission runs from October 1, 2017 - October 10, 2017 in Kigali, Rwanda, and is focused on adult cardiac surgery.

Positions Needed:
Each year our team consists of 35 medical personnel including physicians, nurses, sonographers, bio-tech, pharmacy and volunteers.

CardioStart International and Fundacion El Cielo Para Los Ninos

CardioStart has been invited to Hospital Dr. Francisco de Icaza Bustamante by the Fundacion El Cielo Para Los Ninos. This public hospital serves the country's poor and was recently affected by earthquakes, which required relocation of the ICU. Despite hardships the physicians are highly motivated to provide care for patients, who are poor and uninsured. Pediatric heart surgery has been done at this hospital in the past by mission teams. There is a lack of qualified anesthesiologists, internist, perfusionists and seasoned nurses to support a full-time program so visiting teams will be required on regular visit. Formal Nursing education programs are requested.

This mission runs from February 12, 2017 - February 24, 2017 in Guayaquil, Ecuador, and is focused on congenital heart surgery.

Positions Needed:
1 Pediatric CV Surgeon
1 Pediatric Anesthesiologist
2 Pediatric Perfusionists
2 CV OR Nurses/PA’s (Scrub and Circulate)
1-2 Research Assistant
5-6 Pediatric CV ICU RN’s
1 Biomedical Engineer
