This single-center retrospective study compared the outcomes of mitral valve (MV) surgery vs transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) in octogenarians with moderate-to-severe or severe mitral regurgitation (MR). Between 2014 and 2024, 744 patients aged 80 years and older underwent MV intervention.

Surgical outcomes traditionally rely on time-to-event analysis models, such as the Cox Proportional Hazards (CPH) model, which adjusts for covariates. These models, however, have certain limitations that must be taken into account when interpreting their results.

As minimally invasive mitral valve surgery (MIMVS) continues to gain acceptance, concomitant tricuspid valve (TV) repair in patients with significant tricuspid regurgitation (TR) is increasingly encountered.

Cardiac valve replacement during pregnancy is a high-risk operation that is performed occasionally when indicated. This study queried the Registry of Pregnancy and Cardiac disease (ROPAC) III database, as well as available cases in the literature, and found an overall maternal mortality of 9 percent, while fetal mortality was 34 percent.

Mitral valve leaflet and subvalvular apparatus abnormalities can cause left ventricular outflow tract obstruction in the absence of septal hypertrophy.

This review article aims to examine the surgical approach to patients with failed mitral transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (M-TEER), focusing on operative challenges, decision-making, and contemporary outcome data. Technical considerations, including device removal and the management of complex mitral valve (MV) anatomy, are discussed.

This article reports the long-term outcomes of the concomitant Cox-Maze IV procedure in patients with atrial fibrillation who underwent mitral valve surgery. The authors found that the concomitant Maze procedure provided freedom from atrial tachyarrhythmias of 80 percent at five years and 65 percent at 10 years, respectively.

This study evaluated short-term outcomes and costs of robotic-assisted vs conventional mitral valve repair in adults from 2016 to 2020 using data from the Nationwide Readmissions Database.

This retrospective study of 9,765 congenital heart surgeries found that atrioventricular block complications in 3.4 percent of cases, with 1.9 percent requiring permanent pacemaker implantation.

The aim of this study was to compare the outcomes of mitral valve (MV) repair vs replacement after failed mitral transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (M-TEER). A total of 332 patients across 34 centers from the CUTTING-EDGE registry underwent MV surgery after M-TEER from 2009 to 2020. Outcomes were compared between MV repair and replacement.
