Background

I did my medical school training at Geneva University Medical School, following by residency in general surgery at Geneva University Hospitals, followed by fellowship in cardiovascular surgery, with a particular interest for valve repair and congenital heart disease. I then did a senior fellowship in adult cardiac surgery under Dr Lawrence H. Cohn at Brigham & Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, followed by a fellowship in congenital cardiac surgery under Dr Pedro del Nido at Boston Children's Hospital, followed by an instructorship at the same institution. My main focus of study was complex valve reconstruction and biventricular repair in borderline hypoplastic hearts.

Clinically, I am a private practice cardiac surgeon in Geneva and consultant for the CHUV university hospital. I love being involved in EACTS, STS and CTSNet.

Research

My research focuses primarily on new techniques and materials to improve valve repair, particularly in children. I have worked on the biodegradable annuloplasty ring, which was developed at my institution, and have studied different patch materials for repair of deficient leaflet tissue, such as fresh autologous pericardium, glutaralydehyde-fixed autologous or bovine pericardium, photo-oxidized pericardium, small intestinal submucosa (CorMatrix), polyurethane, and more recently CardioCel.
