Thomas Berger
Thomas Jay Berger, M.D.
Background
I trained with Dr. John Kirklin, served as a staff cardiac surgeon at the Naval Regional Medical Center in San Diego, where I was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal, started a cardiac surgery program in MT which was recognized by the Wall St. Journal as being tied for the lowest mortality in the nation for Medicare CAB surgery, served on the Duke faculty as an Associate Consulting Professor of Surgery and Chief of Surgery at a Duke affiliate hospital. I had to retire from the active practice of cardiac surgery due to problems with my vision and have since consulted in cardiac care and as an expert in medical malpractice cases. My first novel Dueling in Death's Backyard, a medical murder mystery based on my experiences as a surgery resident has recently been published and is available on Amazon.com.
