Birmingham Review Course 2024 | Etiology, Definition, and Assessment of Mitral Regurgitation
Currently in its 32nd year, the Birmingham Review Course is the longest-running course in the cardiothoracic specialty. The 2025 course promises an immersive learning experience featuring didactic lectures and interactive seminars on cardiac and thoracic topics, along with opportunities to engage with an international faculty. The 2025 Birmingham Review Course will take place from September 11–13, 2025.
At the 2024 Birmingham Review Course, Dr. Will Moody, a consultant cardiologist in imaging and inherited cardiovascular conditions at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, delivered a presentation titled “Etiology, Definition, and Assessment of Mitral Regurgitation, Including Evidence for Intervention.”
In his presentation, he covered critical topics, including the anatomy of the mitral valve, mitral regurgitation (MR) quantification on cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR), and the tissue characterization of MR on CMR. Dr. Moody also explored the Carpentier morphology classification, primary MR, and secondary MR. Furthermore, he addressed the discrepancies between US and European guidelines regarding primary and secondary MR.
