Travel Day

This video series follows a collective of cardiothoracic surgeons and allied professionals as they travel to Ghana for their fourth surgical mission and second mission in 2022 at the University of Ghana Medical Center. They performed heart surgery and angioplasty for people who could not afford surgery themselves.

Day 1

The team had to fit two days into one because of travel problems. They started with a forty-six-year-old teacher who needed a mitral valve replacement but could not afford it without the mission. They assessed many patients with echo for the rest of the trip. Seth Vijayan, consultant cardiologist at James Cook University Hospital, did five angiographies and angioplasties, and Bhuvana Bibleraaj, reader in health and social care and postdoctoral NIHR research fellow at Edge Hill University, spent the day teaching the ICU nurse. It was a twelve-hour day, but they were ready for more!
