In this in-depth discussion, CTSNet Editor-in-Chief Dr. Joel Dunning and Dr. Jeffrey Velotta, Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at UCSF School of Medicine and thoracic surgeon at Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center, examine multimodal therapy for mesothelioma.

They explore the survival benefits of this approach and discuss a real-life case of a patient with malignant mesothelioma. Topics covered include extrapleural dissection, visceral pleural removal, cryoablation for pleural nerves, nodal dissection, peeling off the visceral pleura, diaphragm muscle, visceral pleurectomy, diaphragm reconstruction, and more. Dr. Velotta also provides a preview of the upcoming guidelines for multimodal therapy for mesothelioma following the MARS-2 trial and discusses the process of creating these guidelines.
