Robotic Mitral Valve Repair of Anterior Leaflet Perforation and Flail Posterior Leaflet

Monday, September 28, 2015

This video displays a robotic-assisted repair of an anterior mitral valve leaflet perforation from endocarditis and ruptured posterior chordae tendinae. The patient had severe mitral regurgitation related to functional class Type I and Type II dysfunction. The patient had undergone an autologous pericardial patch repair of the anterior leaflet perforation, followed by neochordae repair of the posterior flail leaflet. This was followed by a band annuloplasty. The gram stain of the leaflet tissue was negative in the operating room, and no growth was identified on final cultures of the leaflet tissue. The post-operative repair showed trivial regurgitation with the zone of coaptation below the annulus.
