Nowadays, despite strong evidence of the benefits of concomitant atrial fibrillation ablation during cardiac surgery, this condition is widely undertreated. One reason for this is that ablation often requires opening the left atrium or extensive dissection around the pulmonary veins, which may take time and increase the risk of the procedure, at least in the eyes of those who are not experienced in treating atrial fibrillation.
In this video, the authors will be discussing a simple technique for simultaneous box lesion ablation. This technique adds very little additional time to the procedure and does not require the left atrium to be opened (1).
