The authors of this paper matched 200 low-risk transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) patients with similar surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) patients from 11 institutions using inverse probabilitiy weighting.  At 30 days, the mortality rate was 0.0% in the TAVI group and 1.7% in the SAVR group, whereas the stroke rate was 0.0 % in the TAVI group and 0.6% in the SAVR group. Permanent pacemaker rates were similar (around 5 %).  These results show that low-risk TAVI is safe and effective in the short run. The results will have to be confirmed by randomized trials results which are expected in the spring of 2019.
