This video shows the main surgical aspects of the Bentall-De Bono procedure with a new biological composite conduit. This is the case of a 76-year-old man with ascending aorta aneurysm and aortic valve cusp calcification. The composite conduit utilized for aortic root and aortic valve replacement is a prefabricated biological valve, called BioValsalva.

Pulmonary endoarterectomy is the treatment of choice in patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. Traditionally, PEA is achieved by adopting periods of deep hypothermia at 18° Celsius and circulatory arrest. We present an alternative strategy, based on the application of a negative pressure in the left chambers and also in the superior vena cava.

Use of Intravascular Ultrasound in Endovascular Stenting of Traumatic Rupture of the Descending Thoracic Aorta
September 3, 2008
Traumatic rupture of the thoracic aorta is a common cause of death after motor vehicle accidents. The gold standard for treatment of traumatic rupture of the descending thoracic aorta is a left thoraoctomy with replacement of the affected aorta. The endovascular treatment of aortic transection is an emerging alternative in multi-traumatized patients.

Several surgical approaches have been described for the management of adult patients with acquired heart disease and paraductal coarctation of the aorta. Options are a staged procedure using median sternotomy and left thoracotomy, a catheter-based intervention of the coarctation combined with sternotomy, and single-stage simultaneous correction of lesions via sternotomy.
