This randomized control trial evaluated the effect of superficial parasternal intercostal plane block (SPIP) on lung function testing in patients undergoing aortic valve replacement via conventional sternotomy. A total of 74 patients were randomized to receive either SPIP or no treatment.

Frozen elephant trunk (FET) is an established surgical option for the single-stage treatment of acute type A aortic dissection. The authors studied 222 patients who underwent FET and compared outcomes and reintervention rates.

This article discusses the Ross procedure in young adults with aortic valve disease, highlighting its excellent long-term outcomes, including a 94 percent survival rate at 10 years and a 70 percent survival rate at 25 years.
July 30, 2025
In recent years, there has been a trend toward using more bioprosthetic valves compared to mechanical valves in patients under 65 years old.
July 24, 2025
This multi-institutional study analyzed 10,607 patients who underwent surgical aortic valve replacement between 2002 and 2023 to assess the prevalence, predictors, and outcomes of prosthesis-patient mismatch (PPM).

There is an established difference in presentation, pattern of disease progression, and long-term outcomes in males and females presenting with cardiovascular disease. It is also known that aortic insufficiency (AI) severity and left ventricular dilatation are closely associated in males, but not in females.
May 29, 2025
This article studied the use of both surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) in patients with low-flow, low-gradient aortic stenosis, including both classical and paradoxical variants of the condition.
May 15, 2025
Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has emerged as the treatment of choice for symptomatic severe aortic stenosis (AS) across the whole surgical risk spectrum.
May 1, 2025
Women with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis are underrepresented in clinical trials. The Randomized Research in Women All Comers with Aortic Stenosis (RHEIA) trial investigates the balance of benefits and risks of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) compared to surgery in women.

The Evolut Low Risk trial demonstrated that transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) was noninferior to surgery for the primary endpoint of all-cause mortality or disabling stroke at two years. In this new publication, the authors report the five-year outcomes of the Evolut Low Risk trial.
