Buitrago and Restrepo report the largest series to date from Latin America of patients undergoing robot-assisted thoracic surgery. A total of 69 patients underwent robot-assisted procedures with 47 undergoing pulmonary resections, 18 undergoing mediastinal procedures, and 4 undergoing another type of operation.

Data in the STS Database indicate that invasive mediastinal staging is underused in patients undergoing resection for non-small cell lung cancer, and that the pattern of use varies widely among the participants. Use of guidelines outlining indications for invasive mediastinal staging should be encouraged.
