Mechanical support and transplantation
August 15, 2025
This video demonstrates the implantation technique of the EXCOR Venous Cannula for subpulmonary with combined mechanical circulatory support in the Fontan circulation.
August 13, 2025
This video demonstrates the authors’ evolution of their surgical technique for single ventricle-ventricular assist device implantation.
August 12, 2025
This video demonstrates a left ventricular assist device implantation in a 26 kg child with a BMI of 17.9, who had hypoplastic left heart syndrome and underwent single ventricle palliation to a Fontan.
August 11, 2025
This video demonstrates bi-atrial cannulation for a ventricular assist device in children with small ventricular cavity sizes.
November 6, 2023
An elegant and surprisingly easily read cohort study of mechanical destruction of platelets in ECMO circuits that parallels what we already know in pumps for full cardiopulmonary bypass. The authors propose a biomarker as a target for thrombotic modulation .
October 20, 2023
As a part of the 2023 Australian Thoracic Aortic Symposium, Dr. Joe Coselli presented on antegrade and retrograde perfusion for cerebral protection during cardiac surgery.
September 21, 2023
This video demonstrates surgical implantation of a Berlin Heart EXCOR in a two-month-old patient with dilated cardiomyopathy.
March 28, 2023
This single institution study compared outcomes of children <5 kg with univentricular (23) to those with biventricular (13) circulation supported by the Berlin Heart pulsatile VAD as bridge to transplant. Pts with biventricular flow had better success in getting transplant than those with univentricular physiology (92% vs 61%). 1-year survival after VAD insertion was better in the biventricular group (85% vs 50%).
