In a discussion filmed at the 2016 STS Annual Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona, a group of experts discuss the ethics of testing new medical devices in developing countries. Pieter Kappetein of Erasmus MC Thoraxcenter, Rotterdam, the Netherlands, is joined by Moritz Wyler von Ballmoos of Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina, and Aurelio Chaux of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, California. The panelists discuss the importance of innovating ethically and strategies for maintaining ethical standards.
