At the 10th Annual International Coronary Congress, Dr. Shahzad G. Raja delivered a presentation on “10-Year Mortality of OPCAB vs ONCAB.” He examined the coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) landscape, the expectation vs the reality of off-pump CABG surgery, and the concerns of these operations—conversion, quality of anastomoses, graft patency, incomplete revascularization, and the learning curve. He also discussed the 10-year mortality of off-pump vs on-pump CABG; the pyramid of progression—recognizing coronary surgery as a subspecialty; acknowledgement from regulatory bodies and specialty societies; establishing an accredited revascularization training fellowship; promoting training of surgeons, teams, and organizations; and he answered questions from fellow surgeons.
