Friday, July 4, 2025

In March 2025, the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland held its annual meeting, bringing together professionals in the field of cardiothoracic surgery to discuss the latest advancements in technologies and techniques. Watch for more SCTS 2025 videos in the coming weeks.

At the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland Annual Meeting, Dr. Ruggero De Paulis, professor and Chief of Cardiac Surgery at the Europe Hospital in Italy, delivered a presentation titled “Do Sutureless and Rapid Deployment Prostheses Facilitate the Adoption of Minimal Access Cardiac Surgery?” He discussed the lessons learned regarding the determinants of outcomes in valve surgery and various approaches for surgical aortic valve replacement, including sternotomy, ministernotomy, anterior right thoracotomy, anterior right axillary thoracotomy, and robotic/endoscopic techniques. Dr. De Paulis also highlighted the advantages of sutureless and rapid deployment prostheses, emphasizing their benefits such as superior hemodynamics performances, reduced cross-clamp time and cardiopulmonary bypass time, and their potential to broaden the application of minimally invasive approaches for aortic valve replacement.
