At the 2025 European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS) Annual Meeting, CTSNet Senior Editor Dr. Lorena Montes spoke with Professor Michael A. Borger, Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Leipzig Heart Center, and Dr. Mateo Marin-Cuartas, consultant cardiovascular surgeon at Leipzig Heart Center, about the 2025 European Society of Cardiology (ESC)/EACTS guidelines for the management of valvular heart disease.

They discussed highlights from the updated guidelines, such as the Heart Team and Heart Valve Center, the importance of performing more complex procedures in higher volume centers, and they provided an update in the guidelines relating to the aortic valve, mitral valve, and tricuspid value. Additionally, they discussed how these guidelines apply to the rest of the world besides Europe and transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) recommendations for patients aged 70 years and older, as well as TAVI vs surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR).
