While seasonal patterns suggest that cold weather influences the incidence of acute type A aortic dissection, the impact of subjective thermal stress on dissection risk remains poorly characterized. This retrospective multicenter study examined environmental triggers of acute type A aortic dissection in 548 German patients between 1996 and 2016.

In this study, the authors evaluated a novel aortic anastomotic stapler for repairing acute type A aortic dissections using a human cadaver model. Ten felt sandwich repairs were performed, with half completed using conventional sutures and the other half using the stapler.

The article aimed to assess the long-term survival outcomes following surgical repair in patients with type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) and to evaluate the correlation with the preoperative German Registry for Acute Type A Aortic Dissection (GERAADA)-score value. The authors enrolled patients from nine hospitals.

This single-center ambidirectional cohort study analyzed 617 patients with acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) who had coronary ostial involvement from 2019–2023.

Frozen elephant trunk (FET) is an established surgical option for the single-stage treatment of acute type A aortic dissection. The authors studied 222 patients who underwent FET and compared outcomes and reintervention rates.

This meta-analysis evaluated the performance of The German Registry of Acute Aortic Dissection Type A (GERAADA) score in predicting 30-day mortality after type A acute aortic dissection (TAAAD) surgery across 11 studies.

Type A aortic dissection is a highly morbid condition, where the patient's effective circulating blood volume (ECBV) is one of many predictors of outcomes. The authors propose a new parameter titled “effective circulating volume fraction" that serves to be a more precise measurement of ECBV.

This study evaluates the early safety of a new technique called branched stented anastomosis frozen elephant trunk repair (B-SAFER) for treating multisegment thoracic aortic disease, which aims to improve outcomes in high-risk patients undergoing total aortic arch replacement.

At the 2024 SCTS Annual Conference, Aung Oo delivered a speech on AMDS and FET in acute aortic dissection. He discusses the indications and controversies of these methods, such as DeBakey Type 1, Malperfusion, DANE prevention, and remodeling.
