I was moved by this editorial on global health matters in a daily British newspaper by an  academic medical  colleague,  written in response to anticipated changes in the leadership of the  World Health Organisation. It is perhaps time for us surgeons to augment our administrative participation in global healthcare.

I completely agree, there are at least 2 avenues to participate on a Global level with international bodies, the Lancet Global Surgical Initiative headed by John Meara in the US and the G4 Alliance. Both are concerned with the access to safe surgery in LMIC's. The WHO is moving in the direction of surgical safety, but at a glacial pace.
