September 24, 2014
This video commences with a brief presentation on the management of Type A aortic dissections and proceeds into an operative video showing the steps used when operating on these cases.

In this manuscript, the authors describe their findings of a cohort analysis of 66 453 Medicare beneficiaries over the age of 65, who underwent aortic valve replacement (AVR) ± CABG and compare date of surgery, 30-day and one-year mortality between those receiving biological and mechanical prosthesis.

In this retrospective review, the authors evaluate the long-term outcome of 61 patients undergoing edge-to-edge mitral valve repair without annuloplasty ring for degenerative mitral regurgitation (MR). The reasons for not performing annuloplasty were either severe annular calcification or absence of significant annular dilatation.

This video demonstrates a minimally invasive aortic valve replacement, using neck lines and an Edwards Intuity bioprosethesis.
September 15, 2014
This video demonstrates a new minimally invasive mitral valve repair simulator.

Joel Dunning talks with Marc Gillinov, cardiac surgeon and Surgical Director of the Center for Atrial Fibrillation at Cleveland Clinic. In this interview, Mr. Dunning and Dr. Gillinov discuss mitral valve repair through minimally invasive and robotic techniques.

Hugo Vanermen of the University of Leuven takes an in-depth look at the different options for mitral valve repair, including: quadrangular resection, triangular resection, and the "respect approach."

OBJECTIVES Biological valves are the most commonly implanted prostheses for aortic valve replacement (AVR) surgery in the UK. The aim of this study was to compare performance of porcine and bovinepericardial valves implanted in AVR surgery with respect to survival and reintervention-free survival in a retrospective observational study.

This study summarized data regarding valve use in over 1l,000 pts in the STS database who underwent aortic valve replacement for active endocarditis.  Nearly 75% of pts had no prior cardiac surgery.  Prior cardiac surgery was associated with a higher risk of root replacement (29.9% vs 7.2%), a higher rate of complications (68% vs 61%), and a substant

In this retrospective study, the authors evaluate the effect of preprocedural significant mitral regurgitation (MR) on outcomes of patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) for sever aortic stenosis. In an overall series of 316 patients, 60 had been diagnosed with significant MR prior to the procedure.
